Menorca is the easternmost island of the Balearics and the second largest. This beautiful island has over one hundred beaches and is officially a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - this means that there are no large built-up resorts and that the countryside remains unspoilt. A short flight (less then two hours from Gatwick) brings you to a perfect place for families - with friendly people and a fascinating history.
S'Algar is located in the south east of the island about 7 km south of the capital Mahon (Mao) and a twenty minute drive from the airport. This eastern end of the island is characterised by flatter countryside - divided up into farms by picturesque drystone walls - and tall limestone cliffs and rocky inlets. The spectacular coastline is ideal for people who love to explore. S'Algar is set along one of these cliffs, gently sloping down to the sea front where you will find bars, restaurants and shops.
S'Algar is a small and peaceful resort mainly made up of privately-owned villas and apartments, although there are two hotels and three small apartment complexes. There is not a beach at the sea front at S'Algar but you can swim in the crystal clear water from the sunbathing terraces. The pretty little beach at

is a short fifteen minute walk along the sea path (or a five minute drive) - see lower four pictures. A courtesy bus service runs frequently to the nearby resort and beach at Punta Prima and the local bus service will take you to the capital Mahon and to the other parts of the island.
The S'Algar Diving and Aquasports centre provides many activities from "try a dive" to full courses and you can even gain a powerboat licence there. Diving equipment is available for hire - click on the logo below to visit their website.
The western side of the island becomes a landscape of rolling green hills and forests. Explore the coastline of Menorca and you will find some of the most beautiful coves and beaches that you have ever seen. We recommend hiring a car to explore the island - here you will find something for everyone - beaches, restaurants, stone age monuments and settlements, towns and villages and the old and new capitals (Ciutadella and Mahon) with their shops and nightlife.
